About 5 weeks ago, GeneWize announced that they had about 4,500 affiliates as they officially launched on August 1st.  A few days ago, the announcement was made that the number is up to 10,000 customers and affiliates.

Being a part of GeneWize at the beginning is a wonderful opportunity for the product and the ability to make money.  I joined with GeneWize in the middle of July as a founding affiliate, and we were at about 1,500 affiliates. By year’s end, the estimate is about 20-25,000 more affiliates and customers. It’s hard to predict the future, but at this rate of growth it’s certainly possible.

With this amount of growth, it’s more important than ever to align yourself with the right team and sponsor.

Let me tell you what’s happened to me in the past week.  Two new affiliates have contacted me through this site with questions about how to get others to join with them.

I asked them about their sponsors and both of these individuals had similar stories. They said that their sponsors could help them talk with friends and people they knew, but they didn’t have a lot to teach them about marketing to others on the internet.  It’s kinda sad, really.  Here are 2 people who joined with GeneWize, but didn’t find a coach and sponsor who could help them with their online goals.

Although anyone can learn the techniques to leverage the power of the internet to grow a successful GeneWize business, not everyone knows how to make it happen.  I’m fortunate that I’ve learned those skills, and my team teaches and supports one another every day, night and day.

An article at NewScientist.com highlights how research is showing that subtle defects in our DNA can be fixed by specific vitamins.

Nutrigenomics has got itself a bad name – companies offering nutritional supplements supposedly tailored to people’s genetic makeup have been criticised for misleading consumers.

But a team in California is putting the field on a sounder scientific footing. Researchers led by Jasper Rine and Nick Marini of the University of California, Berkeley, have already shown that mutations causing subtle defects in an enzyme involved in DNA synthesis can be fixed by providing the vitamin folate.

Now they are studying genes for enzymes that require vitamin B6 to function properly, to see whether similar defects can be corrected by providing more of that vitamin.

Rine and Marini inserted variants of the human gene for an enzyme called MTHFR into yeast cells, where they were able to measure the enzyme’s activity. They found five mutations that impaired the enzyme’s function – but for four of them, the problem could be fixed by providing extra folate.

“Nutrigenomics has suffered from unsubstantiated claims,” says Rine, who hopes that his results will encourage companies to run trials in human volunteers.

His work is supported in part by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, which hopes that genetically-tailored nutritional supplements will help improve the performance of military personnel.

In a fascinating article from ScienceDaily.com, researchers from UC-Berkeley contributed news about studies designed to find our genetic flaws that can be fixed with remedies as simple as vitamin or mineral supplements.

“I’m looking for the good news in the human genome,” said Jasper Rine, UC Berkeley professor of molecular and cell biology.

“Headlines for the last 20 years have really been about the triumph of biomedical research in finding disease genes, which is biologically interesting, genetically important and frightening to people who get this information,” Rine said. “I became obsessed with trying to decide if there is some other class of information that will make people want to look at their genome sequence.”

What Rine and colleagues found and report in the online early edition of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) is that there are many genetic differences that make people’s enzymes less efficient than normal, and that simple supplementation with vitamins can often restore some of these deficient enzymes to full working order.
